This qualification has a study duration of one year after obtaining the N Dip:Anal Chem. Entrance requirements are the N Dip:Anal Chem plus prescribed bridging subjects, or an equivalent qualification.

Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry, each with its practical component; Research Project, and ONE of: Catalysis Technology I, Process Chemistry II, or Industrial Chemical Analysis.

As a student of Technikon-type Chemistry Programmes at the NMMU (North Campus), you have the opportunity to carry out a research project in the fourth year of your BTech course. Apart from giving you the chance to do original research work, the project allows you to work in collaboration with a member of staff and his/her research group, and to learn more about the research carried out in the Department and elsewhere. You may either select a project from those suggested by the individual members of staff, or devise your own project in conjunction with a particular industry. Your choice will, however, be influenced by your selection of optional subjects during the course of your study years, and in particular on your subject choice for your BTech:Chemistry course. Some projects may have a technological or environmental bias, or may involve the synthesis or study of compounds of pharmaceutical, agriculture, etc. interest.
